Tsufit was restless. One day she thought to herself, "there's got to me more to life than this," so she made the monumental decision to leave law and follow her dream of being a singer, comedian and television actress.
"You get to charge more," Tsufit says, "I help them raise their rates. Part of that whole process is getting them well known among the people who pay their rates. My coaching rates are now five times what they were eight years ago. It wouldn't have happened if I hadn't become so well known."
To build your brand, drop the excessive professionalism and simply be yourself, Tsufit advises. But as you do that, "be the best version of yourself." People who come across as too perfect or too smooth turn others off. That's why you should show your vulnerabilities, or as author Harry Beckwith once said, "show your warts." Research shows that if you show some vulnerability, you're actually more credible.
She made the Dean's List in law school and was in her tenth year practicing at a respected firm in the middle of Toronto's bustling financial district. If that wasn't enough, she had four beautiful daughters, a rich personality and an impossible-to-forget name: "Tsufit," a Hebrew word for "humming bird."
"For me, it's humor," Tsufit claims. "I could never get away with half of what I say without humor. Otherwise, I'd come across as arrogant or conceited. The other thing is confidence. Know that you can demonstrate that you really do what you say you do.
From an outsider's perspective, she was leading the ideal life.
It was certainly a radical change.
Tsufit argues that well known people are more credible. "It's bizarre, really, but because they've heard of you in the marketplace, they trust you more. They're much more willing to give you large amounts of money. They trust that well known people deliver on what they promise."
Many people will admit that personal branding is an effective way to bolster a career, but they're simply not comfortable doing it. Specifically, many people worry about going too far. When Tsufit was a singer, she would test new songs at a small coffee house before debuting in front of large audiences. Similarly, professionals, should test market their new brands, making sure the brand fits, is comfortable and not fake.

Pressing ahead with its opposition to the nomination Wednesday of Choi Dong-su as the new president of Chohung Bank,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the labor union of the bank stormed Thursday a board of directors' meeting of the bank to approve the appointment,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], delaying the meeting until Friday.
The labor union of Chohung Bank also announced that day that it would stop cooperating with Shinhan Financial Group,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which has been in the process of merging with Chohung. The union said it would intensify its struggle if Shinhan does not meet its demands.
The leaders of the Chohung union burst into the conference room at the bank's head office, where the board meeting had been planned for 2 p.m. on Thursday. The unionists disrupted the meeting for two hours. The bank said that the board meeting would re-open at the same time on Friday.
The Chohung union also closed down offices in the bank's headquarters,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where working-level officials of Chohung have been preparing for the merger.
In a statement issued that day, the Chohung union said that the nomination of Choi Dong-su violated the agreement between the union, the bank management and the government to appoint the new president of Chohung from among the bank's current employees. News reports say top U.S. health officials knew that a key AIDS drug President Bush has promoted for use in Africa can cause severe side effects, including death. The Associated Press, quoting government documents, reports that the health officials were warned that research on the drug was flawed and may have under-reported reactions.
President Bush announced a plan in 2002 to distribute a drug called nevirapine across Africa.
"My administration plans to make $500 million available to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV," he said.
The president hoped the drug would reach one million African women a year and cut HIV transmission during birth by nearly half.
But the Associated Press reports that the National Institutes of Health (NIH),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the U.S. government's medical research agency, chose not to inform the White House of the drug's side effects, potentially lethal liver damage and severe rashes. Citing documents obtained from the health agency, the AP says 14 deaths and thousands of bad reactions during Ugandan testing were not disclosed. But the news report says U.S. health officials did not want safety concerns to interfere with nevirapine's use as an inexpensive way to keep mothers from passing HIV on to their newborns.
The news report says the 2002 warnings about the drug were serious enough for the U.S. government to suspend its testing in Uganda for 15 months and to inform the country's government of the problems,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. They also caused the drug's maker to withdraw its request for permission to use the medicine to protect newborns in the United States,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
But the Associated Press says the chief of U.S,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. AIDS research subsequently dismissed the problems with the nevirapine research in Uganda as overblown and ordered resumption of the studies over the objections of his staff.
A drug expert at the National Institutes of Health (NIH),[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Jonathan Fishbein, sharply criticizes his agency's actions on the nevirapine matter. His lawyer,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Stephen Kohn, spoke on behalf of Dr. Fishbein, who has also been outspoken about what he has described as other U.S. drug regulatory failures.
This is one of the most outrageous medical scandals that I've ever heard of," he said. "We do know deaths related to liver failures. We do know terrible injuries and probably deaths related to these rashes."
But National Institutes of Health officials say they remain confident after re-reviewing the Uganda study and other research that nevirapine can be used safely in single doses by African mothers to prevent HIV transmission during birth. President Bush's spokesman,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Scott McClellan, also defends nevirapine use.
"It's a drug that is approved for use here in the United States,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he noted. "It is a drug that can help save lives. And the U.S. Public Health Service guidelines continue to recommend short-term therapy with nevirapine pine as an option for women who enter care late in pregnancy."

So, you don’t want to beat your clients up if they don’t get everything done in the time they first committed to. That’s not the point we’re talking about here and it defeats the purpose of championing them. Instead, it’s about caring for them enough to want more for them than they want for themselves. In turn, you’ll get more referrals and more clients out of the deal, so it’s a win-win situation all around.
Your Assignment:
What I’m talking about today is a different twist on the same concept. This is about EXPECTING more of each and every one of them, knowing that when they push themselves just a little bit harder to reach their goals, they usually exceed them, especially with me right behind them, giving them just the resources they need and cheering them on.
Now,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you may have heard me say I cherry-pick my clients, and I don’t work with someone who’s not deadly serious about doing what it takes to get clients. Frankly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I don’t really have as much patience for people who aren’t serious or committed (sorry, it sounds harsh, but it’s just not as much fun).
So, go for it! Expect more of them, lovingly. In turn, you’ll have more satisfied clients and those types of clients become RAVING fans who refer like crazy.
My translation: don’t be wimpy with your clients! One of the most interesting shifts I’ve seen in my Client Attraction coaching practice and Masterminds over the last 11 years is that clients are seeing infinitely better results than at the beginning, when I first started.
At first, I thought, “Oh great, this prospective client will NEVER want to work with me, thinking it’s going to be too hard!” But the more I thought about it, the more I was happy she’d written that. YUP. I do expect a lot out of my clients. Hard work, focus, dedication,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and my all-time favorite, a no-excuses approach to doing what it’ll take to get clients, quickly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], consistently and for the long haul. And to get really extraordinary results (see my client testimonials), I expect more of them.
Why is that so Client Attractive? Because, your clients start getting amazing, really kick-butt results, they’ll start telling EVERYBODY about how awesome you’ve been for them. That,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], my friend, means referrals,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], referrals, and more referrals for YOU. Cha-ching!
Hey, just a caveat here: I too don’t always get to ALL the work I’ve promised my coach, when I work with one, to move my business forward. We all get sidetracked by life or a too-fast-momentum upfront (at least I do). I like knowing that the person supports me to think big and to act accordingly.
Let them know you want to play this game with them and see where it goes. Most people love this, especially high-achieving go-getters (my favorites!).
So when I coach my Winners Academy clients on how to manage their OWN clients, I’ve been telling them recently to ask MORE of their clients, expect more and this will translate into more clients for them.
Take a soft approach to this though, not an aggressive one (you don’t want to turn anybody off). Ask them permission to help them double their goals or reach their goals in half the time. Explain to them that they have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Let your clients know upfront that you’re going to expect a lot from them. You can put this on your website or in their welcome packet. It’s been my experience this is actually really exciting for them. Most times, they don’t ask enough of themselves because of fear of failure (and strangely enough, fear of success too).
Make a list of your current clients and think about the goals they’ve set for themselves. Are these goals exciting enough? Do these goals literally PULL the clients into their future or are they a little weak?
A client bcc’d me on an email to her friend a while back, saying “Fabienne will give you a lot of work and expect a lot from you. But the thing is, she’ll also give you all the resources, letter examples,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], scripts you’ll need to get it done and she will cheer you on when you do. It’s simple, but it’s not easy, and it works. You should talk to her.”
It doesn’t matter if you’re a therapist, a financial planner, a mortgage broker,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a coach, acupuncturist, consultant, or nutritionist, it’s time for you to start asking more and expecting more of each one of your clients. Expecting more of them will have them take YOU more seriously, most importantly, they’ll take themselves more seriously, they’ll invest in themselves more, and they’ll do what it takes to get even more results than they originally came in for. That creates a raving fan.
