Kitty City encourages people not to feed feral cats
Saturday at White Sands Mall. According to Sunny Aris, codirector of the nokill cat shelter in La Luz, the event was born of great necessity."We are way beyond our 100cat capacity at Kitty City due to an ongoing emergency trap and rescue effort behind the Taiwan Kitchen Restaurant in Alamogordo, ugg pas cher," she said. "More than 33 kittens and cats, mostly black, black and white, tabby and snowshoes, have been trapped from one colony. Our foster homes took in record numbers of these cats and kittens to save their lives, and almost all are now ready to be adopted."Aris said because of Kitty City's 24hour care program, vaccinations and spay/neuter surgeries, the shelter has more than two dozen kittens ready for indoor homes."People seem to feel that it is kind to feed feral cats," Aris said. "What it causes is situations like this, with huge feral populations breeding in a neighborhood. Given just a short time, 'atrisk cats' without veterinary care or vaccinations will interact with other pet cats and dogs. Adoptathon on Saturday are best friends and litter mates," Aris said. "Also we have other cats who are siblings or simply best friends that would be perfect to adopt as a pair to start a new family who already get along beautifully." During the White Sands Mall event Saturday, door prizes such as "The Cat Therapist" DVDs and other catlovers' favorite things will be given away. Adoptions include one month of free health insurance (with adopter's email address provided) and PetSense offers a 10 percent discount on Saturday only for all cat merchandise purchased by adopters. Kitty City offers "readymade pets" that are neutered or spayed, tested, wormed and vaccinated. Nancy Berg, a Kitty City codirector, enjoys how much folks love meeting the "feline townspeople" of Kitty City. "Each of these beautiful house cats has his or her own unique and endearing personality, and their lives would probably have ended without Kitty City," she said. "We hope folks will understand something very important: that you should never give up on a precious companion animal, whether it's a cat or a dog. We want this event to really illuminate these cats' affectionate, playful hearts. "We'll also offer signups for Kitty City's lowcost spay/neuter program and free pet foodbank during this event."Lowcost feline spayneuter requires a copay of $29, and $39 for dogs. Those needing financial assistance to feed their pets will be signed up, if they are receiving assistance such as disability, Medicaid, food stamps, etc. For more information, call Kitty City at 4306013.
